James is a nature and landscape photographer based in Melbourne, Australia (Naarm, on the traditional lands of the Kulin Nation).
After early efforts in the era of film and darkrooms, the cost, study, work and life in general meant photography took a back seat.
Embracing the wonders of digital technology, James has resumed his passion for using photography to explore our remaining wild places and connect with nature.
From an early age, James observed how photographers could support campaigns to protect the environment, such as Tasmania's wild rivers, by exploring the largely untouched and unknown wilderness to promote a commitment to value and protect the natural world.
Influenced by this long tradition of wilderness photographers, James seeks to go beyond the iconic scenes and explore the less commonly seen.
The practice of photography greatly enhances the experience of being out in the bush, by strengthening the powers of observation and encouraging a coming together with the environment.
And when done well, an image of our natural world can inform and inspire others to appreciate and love the astonishing natural world around us.
Please enjoy these images, and then go out and find some of your own.
